What is a Sync Module?

Sync Module 2 with USB drive attached

The Sync Module relays commands and network details to devices in your system. Blink cameras enjoy longer battery life because the Sync Module stays available.

An always-on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi internet connection is required for motion alerts, Live View sessions and product updates. 2 MB per second is the minimum suggested upload speed.

The Sync Module 2 has an active port for Local Storage of motion clips on a USB drive. Click to learn more about Local Storage. You can insert a USB drive of up to 256 GB and store clips from Blink Outdoor, Indoor (gen 2), and Mini cameras. Local Storage automatically begins saving clips to the USB drive unless you are on a Blink Subscription Plan, then your clips are saved to cloud storage and a once-daily backup saves clips from eligible cameras onto the USB drive.

The original Sync Module has an inactive port, and if you insert a USB drive, no clips are saved. The original Sync Module is compatible with all Blink cameras when you have an active Blink Subscription Plan, or click to learn about the Free Trial that comes with every new camera purchase.

A Sync Module that is powered on and connected to the Wi-Fi can:

  • Create a Blink system
  • Add new Cameras or Blink devices
  • Manage or access your system

Note: Mini cameras manage their own system, and can be added to a Sync Module managed system.

If you do not have a Sync Module, you can order one at Amazon.com.

If you have a Sync Module but it is offline, please see our help article here.
