Blink is announcing that effective July 11, 2018 we will no longer offer software (Blink Home Monitor App) updates for devices running Android 4.4 (KitKat) and earlier, as well as devices running iOS 9 and earlier. Devices running these operating systems will no longer receive app and feature updates.
If you are running an older operating system, your Blink app may continue to work with your Blink devices. However, future app or device features may require newer app versions that will not be available to devices running these older operating systems. In addition, there may come a time when older app versions will no longer function and you will have to upgrade to a newer operating system to download the latest version of the Blink app.
Recommendation: Blink customers that are currently running Android 4.4 or iOS 9 should run a software update to ensure functionality.
Q. Why is this happening now?
A. In order to take advantage of new features and technologies around areas of stability and security that these updated operating systems provide, we are focusing on more recent versions of Android and iOS.
Q. What happens if I encounter an issue with my Blink app if I’m on Android 4.4 or iOS 9?
A. The Blink team will recommend that you update your device to a later version of Android or iOS.
Q. Is there a chance that my Blink cameras won’t record if I’m on Android 4.4 or iOS 9?
A. No. Your Blink cameras will still continue to record as they always have.
Q. How can I check my operating system?
A. You’ll want to check what version of Android or iOS your device is running. On Android, go to Settings>About Phone>Android Version. This will tell you what version of Android you’re running. If it is 4.4.4 or less, your device will no longer receive Blink app updates. To check on iOS, go to Settings>General>About and look for Version. If it is 9.3.5 or less, your device will no longer receive Blink app updates.
Q. What OS versions are now supported?
A. As of July 11, 2018, the supported OS versions are Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or later and iOS 10.3 or later. Devices running Android 4.4 or iOS 9 will continue to work but will not receive app and feature updates.
