Blink Storage Options

Your storage options depend on the equipment and services you have.

Blink Outdoor, Indoor (gen 2) and Mini cameras on a Blink Subscription Plan have access to the newest cloud based features.

Subscription based Cloud storage
Having a Blink Subscription Plan safely stores your motion clips and Live View sessions on Blink's cloud servers. You will have fast and reliable access to Cloud based clips through the Blink app. Subscription Cloud storage is for all cameras, but newer features are only available for Blink Outdoor, Indoor (gen 2), and Mini camera's. These cameras automatically begin using a free trial of the Blink Plus Plan when you first set them up.

Cloud Backup
When a Sync Module 2 with USB drive, joins an active Blink Subscription Plan, it begins a once-daily Cloud Backup of all clips coming from Blink Outdoor, Indoor (gen 2), and Mini cameras. Turn this off in Camera Settings. Cloud Backup Clips can be viewed on the USB drive after it is safely ejected from the Sync Module 2.

Local Storage
When a Sync Module 2 with USB drive is not part of a subscription, the USB drive stores Motion Clips from Outdoor, Indoor (gen 2) and Mini cameras. Live View sessions can only be saved with a Blink Subscription Plan.

XT2, XT, and Indoor (gen 1) cameras attached to a Sync Module 2 system do not have clips saved to the USB drive. These cameras continue to use their 7200 seconds per Sync Module of basic cloud storage.

Existing Account Storage
Accounts that were created before April 15, 2020 continue to have the original 7200 seconds per Sync Module of basic cloud storage.

XT2, XT and Indoor (gen 1) cameras receive 7200 seconds of basic cloud storage per Sync Module, free for life. This is separate from a subscription plan. When one of these cameras is set up on a Sync Module 2, it is assigned 7200 seconds of basic cloud storage, to be used when a subscription is not active.

Alerts and Live View only
Owners of Blink Outdoor, Indoor (gen 2), or Mini cameras without a trial subscription (or existing cloud storage) can only receive Motion Alerts that take you to the camera's Live View when tapped.

Common Questions

How does the subscription plan work?
Because subscription services are cloud-based, we can continue to develop features that enhance your security and your lifestyle. Click here to view the latest subscription details and options.

Do I get a free trial of the subscription plan?
When you create a new account after April 15, 2020, and set up your Blink Outdoor, Indoor (2nd Generation), or Mini camera, you automatically begin a free trial of the Blink Plus Plan subscription.

What does the subscription plan include?
Your subscription plan lets you save motion clips and Live View sessions on our secure servers then access them from the Blink mobile app. Additional camera features and extended warranty are also provided. Learn more here about our subscription plan offerings and additional benefits.

What if I don’t want to subscribe to the subscription plan or use local storage?
Without a subscription plan or free trial, your Blink system can only send motion alerts that connect you to that camera's Live View in the Blink App. Accounts that were created before April 15, 2020, can use their existing cloud storage as normal with newer cameras, but some features are only available with a subscription (or free trial subscription).

How does local storage work?
You can purchase a new system that includes the Blink Sync Module 2 and insert a USB flash drive (sold separately) to allow a once-daily cloud backup. Clip backups do not appear in the Blink app. You eject the USB drive from the Sync Module 2 and view the clips on your computer. To learn more, visit here.

Are my older cameras compatible with the local storage functionality?
Local Storage (clip backup) with the Sync Module 2 is only compatible with Blink Outdoor, Indoor (gen 2), and Mini cameras. Clips from legacy cameras, the XT2, XT, and Indoor (gen 1), are not included in the once-daily clip backup from the cloud. These cameras continue to use their original 7200 seconds.
