Improving Camera Connectivity with Your Sync Module

Note: If your Sync Module is offline, follow the steps in the Sync Module Troubleshooting article.

If you are experiencing issues such as poor live view quality, delayed notifications, or cameras frequently going offline, follow the steps below to help improve the connection between your cameras and Sync Module.

First, check the Connection to Sync Module icons shown in the table below. These icons indicate the signal strength between your Sync Module and cameras, not your Wi-Fi connection. A weak or poor signal may prevent your camera from maintaining a reliable connection, leading to performance issues.

Note: Some Blink cameras, including Mini, Mini 2, and Wired Floodlight Camera, connect directly to Wi-Fi and do not communicate with a Sync Module. If you are troubleshooting one of these devices, follow the steps in Improving Wi-Fi Performance for Your Blink Cameras.

To view your current Connection to Sync Module:

  1. Tap the More button (...) in the bottom-right corner of the camera's thumbnail.
  2. Tap Device Settings.
  3. Tap General Settings.
  4. Under "Network," verify the Connection to Sync Module icon. A yellow or red icon indicates weak or poor signal strength.

To improve the connection between your Sync Module and camera:

  1. Sync Module Placement: Position the Sync Module at least 10 feet away from your router to minimize interference. Avoid placing your Sync Module in areas with obstructions, such as thick walls or materials like concrete, brick, stone, or metal.
    • Sync Module (1st Gen), Sync Module 2, and Sync Module Core: Can communicate with cameras up to 100 feet away. Verify that all cameras are within 100 feet of the Sync Module. If any cameras are placed farther, move them closer to the Sync Module.
    • Sync Module XR*: Can communicate with cameras up to 100 feet away while using Wi-Fi. When paired with an Outdoor 4 camera, Sync Module XR provides coverage up to 250 feet** with Extended Range (XR) or up to 400 feet** with Extended Range Plus (XR+). Learn more about Extended Range.
*Available in the US and Canada, exclusively for Outdoor 4 cameras.
**Actual coverage may vary. Performance may vary due to application, building materials, environment, interference, or accessories. Distances are measured through one exterior wall. Provided distances are for guidance only.
  2. Power Cycle Your Sync Module: Power cycling the Sync Module can help resolve temporary connectivity issues by refreshing its connection with your cameras. Unplug the Sync Module for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  3. Adjust Camera Placement: Repositioning cameras can improve their connection to the Sync Module. Avoid placing cameras in areas with obstructions, such as thick walls or materials like concrete, brick, stone, or metal.
  4. Add an Additional Sync Module: If your cameras are spread across a large property, such as covering both the front and back of your home, adding a second Sync Module may provide better coverage. A second Sync Module can help improve weak signal strength for cameras experiencing connectivity issues with a single Sync Module.
