Getting started
If you’re new to Blink, download the Blink app and create your account. Once you’ve completed these steps, you can proceed with the steps below.
- Hardware: Included mounting screws and wall anchors.
-
Power tools: Electric drill and two drill bits. The bit size depends on your installation surface:
- 3/32-inch (2.375 mm) bit: For drilling pilot holes for screws when installing on wood or softer surfaces.
- 7/32-inch (5.41 mm) bit: For drilling holes for wall anchors when installing on brick, render, concrete or drywall requiring anchors.
- Basic tools: Phillips-head screwdriver and adhesive tape for securing the paper template provided in your kit.
Installing and mounting your doorbell
Before you proceed with the installation and mounting process, determine how your doorbell will be powered:
- Existing wired doorbell system: Uses your home's existing doorbell wiring.
- Blink Plug-in Adapter: A 24V plug-in power adapter (sold separately) for easy installation where existing doorbell wiring is unavailable.
Below you'll find step-by-step instructions for each option:
Existing wired doorbell system
| Region | Voltage | Frequency | VA Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| US / CA | 12–24V | 50 or 60 Hz | 10–40 VA (30 VA or higher recommended) |
| EU / UK | 8–24V | 50 Hz | 8–40VA |
Note: A 24V plug-in power adapter is available (sold separately) as a standalone accessory for easy installation in regions without existing doorbell wiring.
Installing the bypass cable
To install your bypass cable:
- Turn off the power at your home's circuit breaker. If you’re unsure which circuit breaker to flick, turn off the main switch.
- Remove your doorbell chime's cover.
- Loosen the Front and Trans terminal screws, keeping the existing doorbell wires in place.
- Connect one end of the bypass cable to the Front terminal and the other end to the Trans terminal.
- Retighten the terminal screws.
Mounting and connecting your doorbell
To mount and connect your Wired Doorbell 2K+:
- After turning off power at the circuit breaker, remove your existing doorbell from the wall and disconnect the wires.
- Use the paper drill template or the mounting back plate as a guide to mark your screw holes on the wall at 40–48 inches (102–122 cm) above the floor.
- For render, brick or concrete: drill holes using a 1/4 in (6 mm) masonry bit and insert the included wall anchors. For all other surfaces, use the 3/32-inch bit for screws and 7/32-inch bit for wall anchors.
- Thread the existing doorbell wires through the mounting bracket.
- Align the mounting bracket with your wall and mark the screw hole positions.
- Secure the mounting bracket to the wall using the included screws, being careful not to overtighten.
- Connect the two doorbell wires to the terminals on the back of the Wired Doorbell 2K+. The wires aren’t polarity-sensitive; either wire can connect to either terminal. If your existing wires are too short to reach the terminals, use extension wires to extend them.
- Clip the Wired Doorbell 2K+ onto the mounting bracket until it clicks into place.
- Restore power to the doorbell wiring at the circuit breaker. The LED on the front of the device will illuminate to indicate it’s receiving power.
If the included mount doesn't provide the desired viewing angle, consider these alternative mounts (sold separately) offering additional adjustment options:
- Corner Mount: If you need to adjust the horizontal angle, the mount offers a 25° tilt to the left or right.
- Wedge Mount: If you need to adjust the vertical angle, the mount provides a 5° vertical tilt, allowing you to tilt the camera slightly up or down.
These mounting accessories can help you optimise the camera’s field of view for your specific installation location. Choose the appropriate mount based on whether you need to adjust the vertical or horizontal angle of your Wired Doorbell 2K+.
For corner or wedge mount installation
- Assemble the mount to create the desired camera angle. Mount the bracket 40–48 inches (102–122 cm) high on the doorframe, drill through the mounting slots and use the screws and anchors (included in your kit) to secure it. Make sure the wires are accessible through the opening in the bracket.
- Attach and screw the back plate onto the mount.
- Connect the two doorbell wires to the terminals on the back of the Wired Doorbell 2K+. The wires aren’t polarity-sensitive; either wire can connect to either terminal. If your existing wires are too short to reach the terminals, use extension wires to extend them.
- Attach and secure your doorbell onto the back plate.
- Switch the power back on. Your doorbell will power up automatically.
Once you’ve completed these steps, you can proceed with setting up your Wired Doorbell 2K+ in the Blink app.
