Mini Wi-Fi Connection Issues

If your Mini camera is not connecting to the Wi-Fi during setup or frequently disconnects from your Wi-Fi network, use this article to troubleshoot the issue.

Note: The most common cause of failure to connect or frequent disconnection is poor signal strength. Consider moving your Mini closer to the Wi-Fi router.

My Mini is Not Connecting to Wi-Fi

Does the Mini show any lights at all? If not, try the following:
  • Try a different power outlet
  • Use a different power adapter (5 Volt / 1 Amp)
  • Try with a different cable


Certain materials can reduce range or interfere with Wi-Fi signals. If you have any of the following between your router and your Blink device, it may reduce Wi-Fi signal strength:

  • Heavy duty walls and floors made of concrete, brick, or metal
  • Large household objects such as fish tanks, bookcases, or mirrors
  • Large glass windows
  • Large metal objects such as home appliances
  • Household electronics

If there are multiple household electronics (such as TVs, game consoles, cell phones, tablets, computers, smart appliances, baby monitors,etc.) all connected to the same Wi-Fi router or access point, they can compete for signal and potentially interfere with your Blink devices' performance.

Wi-Fi Troubleshooting

Quick fixes to improve Wi-Fi strength

  • Move router into an open space
  • If possible, try moving your router to another location, or move your Blink device closer to your router. The ideal distance between a router and Blink device is under 20 feet.
  • If your Wi-Fi router has an adjustable antenna, try pointing it in different directions and testing the signal strength to see which works best.
  • Consider upgrading your router, especially if it's more than a few years old.
  • Trace the path from your router to your Blink device. If there are any large items made of metal (large appliances) or large glass containers (aquariums) directly between them, try moving them out of the way to reduce interference.
  • Unplug any unneeded or unused electronics that may interfere with your connection.
  • Most routers are automatically set to switch channels to the least crowded option. If your router doesn't have this enabled, consult the manual or contact your internet service provider to learn how to turn it on.

  • Blink devices are designed to use a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal, which is the longer-range standard.  
  1. If you cannot connect your doorbell to your Wi-Fi network, try these steps:
    • Verify your Wi-Fi Password is correct - Ensure you have entered your Wi-Fi password correctly. Tap the eye icon in the Password field to make the characters visible as you type.
    • Check your Signal Strength - Tap Moresettings icon > Device Settings > General Settings > Network and confirm the Connection to Wi-Fi is sufficient.
    • Ensure you are on the same network - While using your mobile device* to add your doorbell in the Blink app, you should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network the doorbell will be connecting to. 
    • Restart your Wi-Fi router - If you've confirmed the previous steps, try restarting your Wi-Fi router by unplugging the power source to your router and plugging it back in. Restarting your router can help when your Wi-Fi is slow or stops intermittently.
    • *If your phone is using a mobile phone data connection, setup may not work as expected. After you complete setup, you can use the Blink app from a different internet connection.



  2. Please ensure you are using the correct password for your in home Wi-Fi network. This is usually printed on the router label or may have been set during the configuration of your router. If you are not sure you are using the correct password, please try connecting a new device (laptop, tablet or phone) to your Wi-Fi network. If your device is already connected to your Wi-Fi network, you can try disconnecting and forgetting the Wi-Fi network and then reconnecting by entering the password again.

  3. Make sure that your router is not blocking access to the Mini camera. This can happen if you are alerted that a device is attempting access but the name is not familiar. Blink devices are sometimes identified by their radio chip instead of the Blink product name. Some known identifiers that you should allow if detected are listed here:

  4. Do you use VPN on your mobile device?  If so, disable VPN and proceed with setup. You can enable your VPN after you complete setup.

  5. Make certain your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network since Blink cameras cannot connect to a 5 GHz band.

  6. Try restarting your router, which may resolve your connection problem.
