Clip storage options for Blink cameras
Important: Once you delete a clip, it is permanently erased from Blink's servers and cannot be recovered by Blink Support.
Keep your recordings easily accessible with two storage options:
- Unlimited cloud storage with a Blink Subscription Plan.
-
Local storage using:
- USB flash drive (sold separately) with Sync Module 2, or
- MicroSD card (sold separately) with Sync Module XR or Sync Module XR+.
To learn about storage options for XT, XT2, and Indoor (1st Gen) cameras or legacy accounts, see "Storage options for devices and accounts created on or before April 15, 2020" below.
Cloud storage
When you purchase a Blink Subscription Plan on Blink.com or Amazon.com, you get access to:
- Unlimited cloud storage for all your motion clips and live views.
- Blink plans provide access to additional features, including video cloud storage (up to 180 days for United States, Canada, and United Kingdom, 60 days for all other regions).
- Motion clips that automatically delete at the end of your video cloud storage period or your custom Auto Delete setting, whichever comes first.
- View clips in the Blink app.
- Backup of cloud clips with Sync Module 2, Sync Module XR, or Sync Module XR+ (see below).
- Advanced features like person and vehicle detection, custom snooze and more.
Backup cloud clips locally
Your cloud-stored video clips are automatically backed up locally when you have:
- A Blink Subscription Plan or Trial and
- A Sync Module 2 with USB drive (sold separately), or a Sync Module XR or Sync Module XR+ with MicroSD card (sold separately).
A local backup of your cloud clips occurs automatically once every 24 hours to your USB or MicroSD.
Clips stored on a USB drive or MicroSD card can only be viewed on a computer, not through the Blink app. Learn more about viewing Clip Backups.
Note: Legacy Blink devices like XT, XT2, and Indoor (1st Gen) do not support clip backup. For more information, see Storage options for devices and accounts created on or before April 15, 2020 below.
Local storage
Save clips without a Blink Subscription Plan using local storage:
- Clips save directly to:
- USB drive (with Sync Module 2), or
- MicroSD card (with Sync Module XR or Sync Module XR+).
- Clips remain until you delete them or the drive is full.
- When full, new recordings stop until you free up space.
- Storage capacity depends on your USB drive or MicroSD card size.
- View clips in the Blink app.
Note: Legacy Blink devices like XT, XT2, and Indoor (1st Gen) do not support local storage. Sync Module Core does not support local storage. For more information, see Storage options for devices and accounts created on or before April 15, 2020 below.
No storage
You don't have to store motion clips for your Blink camera to work. Without storing your motion clips, you still have access to:
- Live view.
- Motion alerts.
- Two-way audio.
Important: Advanced features like smart detection, Blink Moments, and custom snooze are available with a Blink Subscription Plan or no-cost trial.
Storage options for devices and accounts created on or before April 15, 2020
Older Blink devices and accounts have unique storage features that differ from newer models.
Legacy devices
Legacy devices were released on or before April 15, 2020 and include the Blink XT, XT2, and Indoor (1st Gen) cameras.
These devices use cloud storage only and do not support local storage, clip backup, person detection, vehicle detection, or Photo Capture. Motion detection is limited to basic alerts.
Live view recording is available for XT2 without a subscription, but recordings share the 7,200-second cloud storage limit per Sync Module. XT and Indoor (1st Gen) cameras do not support live view recording, even with a Blink Subscription Plan.
When your no-cost trial or subscription ends, you will lose access to unlimited cloud storage. Your device will revert to whatever cloud storage remains from your total 7,200-second allocation per Sync Module. You can free up room by deleting saved clips.
Caution: Once you delete a clip, it is permanently erased from Blink's servers and cannot be recovered by Blink Support.
Legacy accounts
Legacy accounts were created on or before April 15, 2020. These accounts include 7,200 seconds of cloud storage per Sync Module (not per individual camera), with a cap of 36,000 seconds per account. Multiple devices on the same Sync Module share the 7,200-second limit. Clips automatically delete when total recording time reaches 7,200 seconds, or when clips are 60 days old, whichever comes first.
Adding a new Mini camera to a legacy account adds 7,200 seconds of cloud storage. Multiple Mini cameras on these accounts share this 7,200-second storage limit.
Without a Blink Subscription Plan, legacy account holders can save live view recordings with any Blink device except the XT and Indoor (1st Gen) cameras. Live view recording is available for XT2 without a subscription, but recordings share the same 7,200-second cloud storage limit per Sync Module. Even with a Blink Subscription Plan, XT and Indoor (1st Gen) cameras cannot record live views.
Any subscription plan provides unlimited storage (Blink.com or Amazon.com). If you cancel your Blink Subscription Plan, you will lose access to subscription features, and your devices will revert to 7,200 seconds of available cloud storage per Sync Module.
