Extended Range

Note: Extended Range is only available in the US and Canada, exclusively for Outdoor 4 cameras.

When you connect your Outdoor 4 camera to a Sync Module XR+ or Sync Module XR, you can choose from three network coverage types: Wi-Fi, Extended Range (XR) and Extended Range Plus (XR+).

Extended Range is available exclusively for Outdoor 4 cameras, with a limit of 10 cameras using Extended Range at the same time per Sync Module. If using Extended Range, all cameras must use the same network coverage type (Extended Range (XR) or Extended Range Plus (XR+)). Up to two Sync Modules can be configured to use Extended Range per account, allowing for a total of 20 Outdoor 4 cameras using Extended Range. Once this limit has been reached, Extended Range cannot be selected for additional Sync Modules or cameras.

Extended Range (XR)

Extended Range (XR) is a network coverage type that allows you to place up to 10 Outdoor 4 cameras further away from your Sync Module XR+ or Sync Module XR.

Sync Module Maximum Distance Supported Video Quality

Sync Module XR Up to 250 feet (76 m)* 1080p (Best), 720p (Standard), 360p (Saver)

Extended Range Plus (XR+)

Note: Two-way audio isn’t available with Extended Range Plus (XR+) network coverage.

*Distance from Sync Module to the Outdoor 4 camera. Measured in typical use conditions. Typical use refers to indoor placement. It’s measured through one external wall. Actual coverage may vary due to external walls, environment or other factors.

Selecting your camera's network coverage type

To select your camera’s network coverage type, the camera must be placed more than 4 feet (1.20 m) from the Sync Module, and it must remain within 100 feet (30 m) of your Wi-Fi.

To select your camera’s network coverage type:

  1. In the Blink app, from the Home screen, tap the More (...) button in the lower-right corner of the camera's thumbnail image.
  2. Tap Device Settings.
  3. Tap General Settings.
  4. Under Network, select Camera Network.
  5. From the Network Selection screen, choose either Wi-Fi, Extended Range (XR) or Extended Range Plus (XR+), then tap Save.
    • A maximum of 10 Outdoor 4 cameras can use Extended Range per Sync Module. If using Extended Range, all cameras must use the same network coverage type (Extended Range (XR) or Extended Range Plus (XR+)). For information on switching your camera’s network coverage type, visit Switching Network Coverage Type for Outdoor 4 Cameras.

Note: When using multiple Sync Modules with Extended Range capability, place each one in a separate room with at least one wall between them to avoid interference from other Sync Modules.

If you experience difficulties selecting your device’s network coverage type, refer to Extended Range Troubleshooting.
