What is Sync Module XR?

The Sync Module XR sends commands and network details to your cameras, such as live view requests and setting adjustments. With the Sync Module XR, up to two Outdoor 4 cameras can use Extended Range (900MHz technology) per Sync Module, creating a direct communication path that extends coverage.

What is the difference between Sync Module XR and Sync Module 2?

Both Sync Module XR and Sync Module 2 are compatible with all Blink products. The differences include:

  • Extended Range: Sync Module XR supports Extended Range for the Blink Outdoor 4. Learn more about Extended Range
  • Local Storage: Sync Module XR uses a microSD card slot for Local Storage, while Sync Module 2 uses USB 2.0 Type-A (sold separately).
  • Power Port: Sync Module XR uses a USB-C power port, while Sync Module 2 uses a USB-A port.

Is Sync Module XR weather-resistant?

No, Sync Module XR is not weather-resistant. Sync Modules are designed for indoor use and should be kept in a dry, protected area to ensure optimal performance. Sync Module XR operates between 32°F and 104°F (0°C and 40°C).

In which regions can I use Sync Module XR and Extended Range?

Sync Module XR and Extended Range can only be used in the United States and Canada. If you are located outside of these regions, Sync Module XR is not available for purchase or use.

Features and Functionality

Does Sync Module XR act as a Wi-Fi extender?

No, Sync Module XR does not act as a Wi-Fi extender. It uses Blink’s proprietary 900MHz network to extend the range of your Outdoor 4 cameras.

Extended Range may allow you to increase your camera's coverage capabilities in Wi-Fi dead zones.

What storage options are available for Sync Module XR?

Sync Module XR provides two storage options: Cloud Storage and Local Storage.

Cloud Storage

Blink Subscription Plans enable features including unlimited cloud video recording, 60-day (30 days in EU/UK) unlimited Cloud Storage, live view recording, Extended Live View (available on Blink Wired Floodlight and Mini cameras), Photo Capture (available on Mini 2, Outdoor 4, Video Doorbell and Blink Indoor and Outdoor 3rd Gen cameras), Person Detection (available on Mini 2, Outdoor 4 and Wired Floodlight Camera) and Blink Moments

Local Storage

Local Storage is an optional feature that allows you to save clips directly to a compatible microSD card (sold separately) connected to Sync Module XR. For users with a Blink Subscription Plan or Trial, Clip Backup* is automatically enabled, saving a daily backup of your Cloud Storage clips once every 24 hours.

*Available for Outdoor 4, Wired Floodlight, Video Doorbell, Outdoor and Indoor (3rd Gen), Mini, and Mini 2. 

Legacy Blink devices such as XT, XT2, and Indoor (1st Gen) do not support Local Storage or Clip Backup. These cameras receive 7,200 seconds of Cloud Storage per Sync Module. When the storage limit is reached, the oldest clips are deleted to make room for new clips.

Do I need a Sync Module to use my Blink cameras?

No, not all Blink cameras require a Sync Module.

A Sync Module is required for:

  • Outdoor 4
  • Outdoor & Indoor (3rd Gen)
  • XT2
  • XT
  • Indoor (1st Gen)

A Sync Module is not required for:

  • Blink Wired Floodlight
  • Video Doorbell
  • Mini cameras

These devices can create and manage their own systems, with the option to add a Sync Module for added functionality. Learn more about Sync Module requirements.

Setup and Configuration

How many cameras can I connect to a single Sync Module XR? 

Each Sync Module XR supports up to 10 Blink devices. While only two Outdoor 4 cameras can use Extended Range at the same time, you can have more than two cameras connected, with the additional cameras using standard Wi-Fi coverage.

How many Sync Module XRs can be connected to one account?

You can connect multiple Sync Module XRs to one account. Each account supports up to two Sync Module XRs using Extended Range for up to two Outdoor 4 cameras per Sync Module XR. Once this limit is reached, selecting Extended Range for additional Sync Modules will be unavailable. Learn more about Extended Range.

Yes, a Wi-Fi connection is required for Sync Module XR.

What is the USB-C port used for?

Sync Module XR uses a USB Type-C port for power only and is not for data transfer. The other end of the cable should be plugged into a USB Type-A compatible power adapter that supports 5V 1A.

Where can I find the QR code and Device Serial Number (DSN)?

The QR code and Device Serial Number (DSN) are located on a sticker on the back of your Sync Module XR. You can either scan the QR code with your mobile device or enter the DSN manually to add Sync Module XR to your Blink account. Learn how to set up your Sync Module XR.

What are the requirements for using a MicroSD Card?

Sync Module XR supports MicroSD Cards with sizes up to 256GB in one of the following formats:

  • ExFAT (recommended)
  • FAT32
  • FAT
