Can't Connect to Sync Module when Setting Up Devices

If you receive an error "Unable to Connect to Sync Module" when adding cameras to a system (including the Blink Video Doorbell and Mini), the cause could be certain devices on your Wi-Fi network conflicting with the setup process such as:

  • Smart Thermostats
  • Baby Monitors
  • Microwave Ovens, Refrigerators, etc.

You can temporarily take these devices offline until you complete the setup process. 

Additional troubleshooting steps you can try include:

  • Use a different phone or tablet
  • Restart your mobile device
  • Reinstall the Blink app
  • Switch off mobile data
  • Not use VPN
  • Disable anti virus apps
  • Relocate the Sync Module to increase signal strength
  • Disconnect all Wi-Fi extenders and mesh pods

If adding your device fails and you receive an error "Remove the batteries for 10 seconds, then reinsert them and try again." power cycling the camera will enable it, so it can successfully communicate with your sync module.

If you see a "Sync Module Offline" banner across the top of the Blink app and the issue does not resolve itself in a few minutes, please follow these troubleshooting steps.

On some devices running iOS 14 make certain the Blink app has "Local Network" access enabled, or else you may not be able to join the Blink network and will be directed back to the Discover Device screen. This setting can be accessed through the following steps:

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Tap on Privacy.
  3. Next, tap on Local Network.
  4. A list then displays of all the apps that have requested permission to communicate on their local network. If Blink appears then it must be enabled.
