Use this article to understand how to improve the installation and settings of your Blink Video Doorbell so it captures what you want and alerts you appropriately when it detects motion.
Motion Sensor vision range
The Doorbell Camera's motion sensor looks directly outward from the doorbell in a cone shape of about 100º in width, tilted downward 10º, with a range of 25 feet (7.6 m). When the doorbell is mounted about 45 inches (114 cm) above the ground it detects knee-level motion at 17 feet (5 m) away.
Doorbell placement has an effect on your overall experience. The sensor works better when motion is moving across the view. Too much background motion can create unwanted notifications and video.
Pointing the doorbell towards a source of light can 'wash out' the camera image, and when the camera is in night vision mode, nearby reflective surfaces can affect how clear the image is. Try to select a view that alerts you and balances the other factors.
Doorbell mounts
Blink offers Wedge and Corner Mount accessories that can shift the doorbell camera and motion sensor view.

A wedge mount may help by pointing the motion sensor up or down 5º, making it more likely that motion approaching your entrance creates a motion alert, instead of other environmental factors, like moving vehicles.
- Installing the wedge with the wider portion at the bottom will tilt the doorbell upward.
- Installing the wedge with the wider portion at the top will tilt the doorbell downward.
The corner mount changes the view 25º from side to side. Use this to adjust which direction the doorbell faces. Learn more about installing a wedge or corner mount.
Once the doorbell is pointed in the direction you want, adjust the motion sensitivity setting in the Blink app.
