Resolving setup issues

Fix setup issues with these common solutions.

  • Unable to connect.
If you're unable to connect, keep your camera in the same room as your Sync Module (within 7 feet) during set up.
  • "You don't have a Sync Module. This is a dependent device."
To set up an Outdoor 2K+ camera, first add a Sync Module to your system. Learn how to add a Sync Module.
  • "Serial already registered to a different account."
The device is set up in another Blink account. If this was a gift, ask the original owner to remove it from their account. Learn about reselling or gifting your Blink hardware.
  • "Camera serial already registered to this account."
This camera is already set up in another Blink system. Look through your systems to find it, delete it, then add it to your new system.

Troubleshooting camera offline message

When a camera can't communicate with your Sync Module, its thumbnail appears dimmed with an offline message. Try these steps to get back online:

  • Ensure your Sync Module is online.
  • Power cycle your Sync Module by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.
  • Power cycle your camera by removing the batteries for five seconds, then reinserting them.
  • Check the battery level and replace them if needed.
  • Verify your Wi-Fi connection is stable and active.
  • Check the signal strength between the Sync Module and the Outdoor 2K+ camera.
  • Check the signal strength between your Wi-Fi router and the Sync Module.

Outdoor 2K+ motion detection issues

If your Outdoor 2K+ is not recording motion events, check the following:

  • Is your system armed?
Your system must be armed to record motion events. Learn how to arm your system.
  • Is Motion Detection on?
Motion detection must be on for the camera to detect activity. Learn how to turn on motion detection.
  • Is your Wi-Fi connection stable?
Poor Wi-Fi connection can prevent events from being recorded. Learn how to optimize Wi-Fi performance.
  • Do you have Smart Detection on?
Smart Detection filters motion events to show only vehicles or people from other types of motion.
To control your alerts, go to Device Settings > Motion Settings > Smart Detection
    • Turn on Other Motion to get all motion events.
    • Select People or Vehicle to only get those specific alerts.
    • Use multiple settings to get different types of motion.
  • Have you checked your camera's sensitivity setting?
Low sensitivity may cause the camera to miss motion. Learn how to adjust motion settings.
  • Is your camera placed to optimally capture motion?
Camera angle and placement can affect motion detection. Learn how to improve camera positioning.
  • Do you have adequate storage?
Lack of available storage may prevent motion clips from being saved. Learn how to troubleshoot motion clip storage.

Note: To record motion events, you must have an active Blink Subscription Plan (or no-cost trial) or a Sync Module with local storage.

Reducing unwanted motion alerts

Using Smart Detection
If you are receiving too many notifications, you can use person and vehicle detection to filter the motion notifications that matter most to you.

With these settings on, you will get notifications only when people or vehicles are detected in motion clips. Or, if your camera faces a busy street, you can turn off vehicle detection to avoid alerts triggered by passing cars.

Learn how to use person and vehicle detection.

Using Activity Zones
Activity Zones help you manage motion detection by letting you exclude areas in your camera's field of view that trigger too many notifications. However, you may still receive alerts from motion outside these zones due to environmental factors, including:

  • Change in lighting conditions.
  • Movement from trees and bushes.
  • Shifting shadows throughout the day.

To minimize unwanted notifications, try:

  • Adjusting your camera's viewing angle.
  • Updating your Activity Zones as seasons change.
  • Taking new Activity Zone photos regularly to maintain accuracy.

These steps can improve the accuracy of your motion detection and help reduce the frequency of unwanted alerts.

Outdoor 2K+ power issues

If you're experiencing power issues with your Outdoor 2K+ camera, make sure you are using one of these options:

  • Two Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries (1.5V, non-rechargeable)
  • Weather Resistant Power Adapter* (sold separately)
  • Outdoor Battery Extension Pack (available in US and Canada, sold separately)

*When using the Weather Resistant Power Adapter with Outdoor 2K+, it's recommended to have working batteries installed. In the event there’s an issue with your camera receiving power, the camera will use the installed batteries to function.

Note: For optimal battery life, ensure your camera has a strong connection to your Wi-Fi and Sync Module. To check signal strengths, tap Device Settings, then General Settings to view your camera's connection to both Wi-Fi and Sync Module. To learn more, visit Improving Wi-Fi Performance for your Blink Cameras.

Improving Outdoor 2K+ video quality

To improve the video quality of your Outdoor 2K+ camera:

  • Check resolution settings
    Verify you're using the best resolution (2560 x 1440):
    1. Open the Blink app and tap the More (⋯) button on the camera’s thumbnail.
    2. Select Device Settings, then Video and Photo Settings.
    3. Tap Video Quality and choose your preferred resolution.
Note: High-speed internet is required with these minimum upload speeds for each resolution:
      • Best (2K) - 6 Mbps
      • Standard (1080p) - 3 Mbps
      • Saver (720p) - 2 Mbps
  • Consider the placement of your Sync Module during setup
Make sure the Sync Module is in the same room as your router, but not too close, ensuring it's also positioned away from physical obstructions to avoid network interference. For placement best practices, refer to Understanding the Placement of Your Sync Module.
  • Clean the lens
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from obstruction.
  • Adjust placement
Avoid directing the camera at bright light sources.

If the issue persists, visit Blink Camera Placement Guidelines.
